I hear a lot of people saying things like “Do not be over-excited. Else you will definitely break your own heart”, “Do not keep smiling. You may fall victim to people’s evil gaze” etc. As a kid, the first time when someone said it to me, I thought they were saying out of their own personal experiences. But when I started to hear very similar things from various people, it started to hit me.
Okay, people aren’t saying you should not get excited at all, but only to control excitement. Why do you have to control your emotions or excitement? I wish you are in a state of excitement all the time. I really wish you do. Why do human beings, who are capable of limits only the creator knows, look to control their excitements? Have human beings become so helpless and fearful?
Do you fear that, if you laugh too much on a given day something terrible may happen? There is a baseless misconception that we would have heard a thousand times in our lives. If you are too happy today, that means something bad can happen to you. Ofcourse, this is because human beings are, in general, cyclical in nature.
Since an average human being is cyclical, sadness will inevitably follow happiness. Something wrong may happen the very next minute or the next day or after 3 days. The reason for your sadness could either be the same as your happiness or something else, but you becoming sad is inevitable. It is inevitable, not because you are meant for it, not because you need it, not because it is human nature. It is so because you are cyclical in nature. Your happiness, your joy, your love, your pain, your pleasure and so on are not happening from your own awareness, instead they are triggered by external forces.
Please remember that life is a fickle happening. Life is mercurial. If you want to live a life where you want to do things that do not affect you or injure you or harm you in any way, the best thing to do is to fall dead. Because if you fall dead, nothing else will happen to you. Nothing will injure you, nothing will harm you, nothing will poke you anymore. This also applies otherwise. If you fall dead, you will not experience the sweetness of life either. Are you ready for it? No, you are not.
You have to live an exuberant life but with the necessary balance. If you are trying to control excitements or emotions, it means you are bit-part life. If you are a bit-part life and peaceful, you are still bit-part life. By being a bit-part life, you will never fully understand life. Neither will you ever do something with utmost intensity. If you are an exuberant life and you are happy, it is fantastic. If you are an exuberant life but losing your balance sometimes, it is still fine because you will definitely find your balance again. But if you are a bit-part life, your life is not worth it because it doesn’t mean anything to life.
If you can be blissful, you can be in a state of excitement all the time. I am, most of the times, excited about everything. I may not look excited because right from my childhood, I chose not to display too much of emotions to the world. But, I am excited about everything in my day and not in my day. I am not excited about any particular event, or a person or a ‘thing’. My excitement is not subjective. I’m just excited, almost all the time.
Obvious. One must learn how to bring in the imperative balance, that excitements do not lead you to tragedies or danger. Excitement means that life is flowing through with more intensity.
So, do not try to control your excitements or emotions. Work on finding your own intelligence to bring in the necessary balance. “How not to get excited?” should not be your question. “How not to getting into a tragedy because of your excitement?” should be your question.
Let’s find solutions. Not solaces.
