“The Secret to getting ahead, is getting started.” — Mark Twain.
There are lots and lots of wannabes out there. Wannabe artists, wannabe footballers, wannabe Entrepreneurs, wannabe this and wannabe that. But, in reality, there are only two types of people. People who are that something and people who are not that something. There are engineers (not you, graduates) and there are others. There are musicians and there are others.
It is actually so easy to have a desire to do a “Ronaldo Chop”. It is very easy to have a desire to start a digital agency and turn it into a hugely profitable company. Easy to have a desire to become the best selling author. All these desires are very easy because it has nothing to do with reality. These are all desires that needs effort, time and patience. If you’re not willing to put in the work everyday to get to where you want to be, please do not cry about not getting there.
If you really want to be an entrepreneur and build a business, go ahead and meet people. Talk to people who share the same desire, to people who started from nothing. Test your skills, try to make a profitable plan and enhance your competence. Just because you’re not born to a wealthy businessman, doesn’t mean you can’t be one.
The same applies to other careers, as well. If you want to be a digital marketer, start by creating your own blog and market it. If you want to be a coder, start learning languages and collaborate with people with the same desire. Try to build something and improvise on it. No one has ever improved by procrastinating. Just get started.
Also, please keep in mind that just because you want to pursue a career (a real career) does not mean that your family and friends will support you. They will, once they see the outcome. So, Being on your own path isn’t easy. It requires constant effort, patience and the Kaizen approach.
Thanks and have a great day!
